Why does Krank Golf offer drivers with three different face thicknesses?

At Krank Golf, we recognize that golfers have unique swing speeds, which is why we're the only manufacturer to offer the same driver model in three distinct face thicknesses. This approach is rooted in the principle of the trampoline effect, which optimizes the driver's performance by matching the face thickness to the golfer's swing speed.

The Science Behind It:

Every golfer, regardless of their swing speed, deserves a driver that maximizes their distance off the tee. Traditional manufacturers typically offer a one-size-fits-all face thickness, but we believe in a more tailored approach. By aligning the driver's face thickness with your swing speed, we ensure that every golfer can enjoy the maximum spring effect for their shots, leading to significant distance gains, especially for those with medium to slower swing speeds.

Our Commitment:

Krank Golf is dedicated to enhancing the playing experience for all golfers—men, women, and children, regardless of age or swing speed. Our unique offering of three different face thicknesses means that every golfer can find their perfect match for optimal distance and performance.

Introducing the New Formula FIRE Drivers:

  • Formula FIRE PRO: Designed for those with an average driving distance above 250 yards, or those competing in professional or elite amateur USGA competitions. This driver is USGA conforming with approximately 250 CT.
  • Formula FIRE X: Tailored for golfers with an average driving distance between 200 and 250 yards, featuring a high COR with approximately 340 CT.
  • Formula FIRE XX: Optimized for golfers with an average driving distance under 200 yards, offering a super high COR with approximately 400 CT.

Krank Golf stands by the philosophy that the right equipment can significantly enhance performance and enjoyment on the course, ensuring every golfer has access to the best technology tailored to their needs.

What sets the Formula FIRE apart from the Formula 11?

The Formula FIRE series represents a significant leap in our driver technology, showcasing substantial improvements over the previous Formula 11 models. Here's how we've enhanced performance in the FIRE series:

  • Advanced CT Values: We've elevated the CT (Characteristic Time, a measure of spring effect) in the FIRE X Driver to 340 CT and in the FIRE XX Driver to an unprecedented 400 CT. This increase was achieved through precision CNC micro milling of the Deep Cupped Face, making it thinner to boost ball speed significantly.
  • Enhanced Louvering: By adding more louvers both on the bottom and top of the driver, we've created our most rigid driver frame to date. This rigidity translates to faster and more efficient energy transfer back to the ball, enhancing both speed and distance.
  • Optimized Driver Shape: We've reengineered the bottom of the driver, lowering the center section to raise the center of gravity by 10 millimeters. This adjustment significantly reduces ball spin, leading to longer and more controlled drives.
  • Wider Deep Cup Face: The expansion of the Deep Cup Face increases the face's overall structure and durability. This enhancement is crucial to support the thinner face designs without sacrificing performance integrity.
  • Improved Weight Placement: Strategic alterations in the bottom weight placement have been made to refine accuracy and control angular/lateral spin more effectively, providing golfers with greater shot precision.

The Outcome:

The culmination of these advancements makes the Formula FIRE Driver the highest-performing driver Krank Golf has ever developed. Every design tweak and technological enhancement has been geared towards delivering unmatched speed, accuracy, and playability on the course.

How Does Characteristic Time (CT) Affect My Driver's Performance?

CT, or Characteristic Time, is a critical measurement used by the USGA to gauge the spring effect, often referred to as the Trampoline Effect, of a driver's face. This measurement is obtained using a CT Machine, which drops a pendulum ball onto the driver's face and records how long the ball remains in contact with it. The maximum allowable contact time is set at 257 microseconds, as per USGA standards. Drivers recording a contact time exceeding this threshold are not included on the USGA Driver Conforming List.

Why CT Matters:

The CT value is paramount because it directly correlates with the driver's ability to transfer energy back to the golf ball, enhancing both speed and distance. A higher CT number signifies a greater spring effect, which can significantly improve a player's driving performance by allowing the ball to travel further. However, it's essential to balance this performance enhancement with the rules of golf, ensuring all equipment is USGA conforming.

CT Numbers for FIRE Drivers:

  • Formula FIRE PRO: With an approximate CT of 250, this driver is at the pinnacle of what's allowed, ensuring it conforms to USGA regulations while maximizing performance.
  • Formula FIRE X: Boasts a CT of approximately 340, offering a high COR/CT for golfers seeking an edge in distance and speed, beyond the conventional limits.
  • Formula FIRE XX: Features an unprecedented CT of approximately 400, categorized under Super High COR/CT, designed for maximum spring effect and ultimate distance.

Understanding CT and its implications allows golfers to make informed choices about their equipment, balancing the desire for enhanced performance with the need for regulatory conformity. With the FIRE series, Krank Golf offers options for all types of players, from those adhering strictly to USGA standards to those seeking the utmost in distance and speed enhancements.

How Much Further Can I Hit with the Formula FIRE Driver?

The Formula FIRE Driver isn't just another club in your bag; it's a game-changer designed to significantly enhance your driving distance. By optimizing ball speed and minimizing ball spin, golfers can expect to see an average increase of 20 to 40 yards on their drives. The actual gain varies based on several factors, including the roll characteristics of the course you're playing on.

The Science Behind Longer Drives:

At Krank Golf, we've harnessed the science of the trampoline effect—where the driver face flexes at impact and launches the ball with increased velocity. By fine-tuning this effect across all swing speeds, particularly benefiting those with medium to slower swings, we ensure every golfer experiences the thrill of longer drives.

Fairness in Performance:

Our goal is to democratize distance, providing every golfer with the same opportunity to maximize their driving potential, regardless of swing speed. With the Formula FIRE Driver, we've engineered a solution that brings fairness to the forefront, enabling golfers at all levels to enjoy the benefits of advanced driver face technology.

In summary, the added yards from using the Formula FIRE Driver come from a blend of meticulous engineering and a deep understanding of golf physics—not magic, but pure, applied science ensuring every golfer gets to hit further, straighter, and more consistently.

Why Do We Use Average Driving Distance to Select Driver Face Thickness?

Selecting the right driver face thickness is crucial for optimizing your performance on the course. At Krank Golf, we prefer to use average driving distance as a key metric for this selection process. The reason is straightforward: we can predict with 99% accuracy the average driving distance produced by each swing speed. While swing speed is a valuable indicator, the reality is that only about 10% of golfers know their exact swing speed. However, most golfers have a good understanding of their average driving distance.

Making the Right Choice:

To simplify the process and ensure you select the Formula FIRE Driver that's best suited to your swing speed, we recommend utilizing the driver selector tool on our website. This approach not only streamlines the selection process but also guarantees that you can easily find the driver optimized for your game, enhancing your performance with every drive.

Optimize Your Driver Choice with Our Selector Tool:

By relying on a metric most golfers are familiar with and can accurately measure— their average driving distance—you're guided to the perfect driver setup for your game. We encourage you to explore the driver selector tool on our site, crafted specifically to help you find the ideal driver configuration, propelling your game to new heights.

Can Golfers with Faster Swing Speeds Use the Thinner-Faced X & XX Drivers?

No, and here's why: the science behind driver face design is clear and precise. Golfers whose average driving distance exceeds 250 yards should not use the FIRE XX Super High COR/CT Driver designed with a thinner face. Doing so can lead to two major issues:

  1. Reduced Distance: Higher swing speeds will overload the thinner driver face, hindering its ability to spring back effectively. This results in shorter drives, contrary to the desired outcome of using a driver.
  2. Potential Damage: The excessive force exerted by faster swing speeds can cause the thin-faced driver to flatten and eventually break, compromising the club's integrity and longevity.

Each FIRE Driver is meticulously crafted for a specific range of swing speeds and corresponding average driving distances. By selecting a driver that aligns with your swing speed and driving distance, you ensure the club's durability and optimize its performance to achieve extreme ball speeds and maximized distance.

Do Krank Golf Formula FIRE Drivers Hit Straight?

Absolutely. All Krank Golf Drivers, including the FORMULA FIRE series, are recognized as the straightest hitting drivers available. If you're familiar with the performance of the Formula 11 Driver, then you'll understand the level of precision we're talking about. Thanks to our innovative Dual weight port system, lateral and angular spin on the ball is significantly reduced. This reduction in spin leads to a decrease in ball curve, enabling a straighter flight path.

Simply square the clubface to your target, and you're likely to find more fairways than ever before with the accuracy and reliability of the FORMULA FIRE Drivers.
